Why

Why did the new changes to this app have to bring a change to the notification sound for this app? Please make a way to change the notification sound for this app. Or at least go back to the way the notification sound used to be. This was a great app and Im now starting to not like this app because of the new notification sound that comes with the new changes to the app. Also it would be nice to have an option to not show previews when I get email notifications. The new way to add pictures to emails is no good the old way was much better. Please go back to the old way or at least go to the way gmail.com works for adding pictures to emails. And please dont change gmail.com so it works just like the app. Gmail.com is great the way it is.

What happened?

I used to like this app. What the heck happened?! Unfortunate....deleted and accessing mail through a different app.

The update is still terrible

I agree with another reviewer that it seems that Googles several small tweaks since the update are more aimed at deleting the hundreds of 1 star reviews than they are actual attempts at improvement. Shame. In addition to becoming a visual assault/aesthetic mess. Its harder to scan, theyve eliminated the simple check box which made deleting many emails simpler. Now you have to hold down on an email for the check box to show up. The check box was MUCH more useful than the initials/avatar circles that have replaced them. All that real estate taken up by preschool colored nonsense reduces the number of emails available at a glance, and for what? And where is the straightforward reply button? Figuring this out is not my job. It is your job to make this intuitive and not screw something up that worked just fine. This update is terrible all around. A mess. No amount of tweaks will save this update. Take your lumps and admit you screwed up. Revert to the previous version.

Total disaster! Deleted and switched to Outlook app.

The new release has re-imagined how email should work. I couldnt get the folders to work on the work correctly. All folders and sub folders are visible at the same time. The labels are a good idea, but without a good way organizing them it is unworkable. I deleted Gmail app and switched to Outlook app. It is elegant and very organized.

Adding in my one star review

Ill keep it short. Worst app ever. I moved to using the Outlook app. Soooo nice. Never coming back.

Garbage update

I have stopped using this app entirely. If I wanted bright, candy-colored icons Id still be using AOL. Apparently Google is following Apples lead and "updating" things that work just fine. FIX YOUR MISTAKES!

Retina-tearing and difficult to use

The latest update is supposed to offer great UI improvements. Instead, its just full of too much color, displaying too few items on a screen, and buries lots of useful functionality. If you liked the checkbox and the possibility of batch-processing lots of emails, thats broken now. You have to hold your finger down on an email to select it, then tap others to select them. But be quick! It will unselect everything in a few seconds. Oh, and if you wanted to do more than one thing to the selected messages: youre out of luck. It unselects them as soon as you take one action. This new update is, frankly, terrible. Id give it zero stars if I could.

So frustrated with new update

I used to like this app, but ever since they changed it I find it so frustrating to use.

Terrible

I was pretty much forced to update bc the old version started taking forever to load. You cant delete emails without looking at them and the links to "promotions" and "social" emails look like ads. If I could give zero stars I would.

Couple major issues

First, when Forwarding a message you cannot edit it! Silly that I am forced to include the entire forwarded message and all its headers in the forward. Next, the ability to perform multiple actions on a set of selected messages (for example, select 10 messages, mark as read, and update their label) is gone...now I have to select the message again for each operation.

Simple, user friendly

Recommend this Gmail app for anybody with an account. Very organized, and you can do many things inside the app.

Absolutely useless!

Just switched to Polymail due to complete inadequacy of this latest iteration of gmail.

New update is awful! Hate the gooey!

Really clunky and difficult to use new gooey... Can I get a "revert" and not An upgrade? I really liked the gmail app like it was. It was much easier to read many subject titles, and wasnt distracting wjth labels and colors. Please change it back!

Feels like a beta version, ui and ux improvements needed

•Unread or read icon isnt intuitive to the new user. •Limited options in 3 dot menu. •"Settings" is still all the way at the bottom off of the labels list. Bring it to the top or use a cog icon next to account avatar. •Creating and change label as; still no search option or create label like on the desktop, currently; user has to scroll all the labels or create label from the hamburger menu and scroll all the way to the bottom to create a label. •In-App browser is gone. • Still unable to tap and access labels from an open message. The rigmarole closing out of the message and tapping the hamburger menu, then scroll through the labels isnt the greatest experience; if you have 50+ labels to scroll through.

Not good

This update is terrible! Come on google you should do better. Default to "important and unread " and having to switch off of that to "everything" is only one of several really time wasting changes. Jumping from one email to the next and having to press the email multiple times to open or delete. Really? I tried to avoid updating my iPad once I saw this update on my phone. Fix it please!

Awful

Wow this app went from good to utterly terrible. Horrible interface, terrible aesthetics, unintuitive design. Will now need to find a new email app.

meh

i liked the ability to swipe back and forth with previous versions

Good app

Learning to use the app was beneficial to keeping my files separate from junk mail.

Bad Update

The other reviews are correct. I enjoyed the gmail app for at least a couple years. The November update, which thoroughly degraded the app, disappointed me. The new method for attaching files is so annoying that I had to download another gmail client in order to send a basic email. For example, I can no longer attach PDFs from Dropbox. That in itself is a deal breaker for me. I hope the developers at google create some sort of hybrid between this edition and the previous one. As the other reviewers noted, this edition is attractive, but its completely ineffective.

Great app

Version 5.0 had a bit of a rocky start, but once the kinks were worked out, it now has the same functionality as its previous builds but with a slicker UI.
