Unreliable and limited

Ive used Gmail for years and the Gmail app for a number of months, and so far, I find the app quite frustrating. The features in the app are limited, but generally adequate. However, my primary complaint us that it is unreliable!! It locks up regularly, and then it wont send or refresh. It also wont send a new email, but there is no indication of a problem until I hit the Send button! Then, everything I just typed goes into a dark hole, so I only create longer emails first in a note and paste them into Gmail. These problems happened on the iPhone 5s and now on the iPhone 6.
The solution to all of this: Use Apples email app.
